A Taste of Hawaii in San Diego at Bali Hai
After checking into the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego, I couldn’t decide where to go for dinner. Since we were dining at Vessel Restaurant located at the resort on the second night of our stay, we took the advice from the front desk and went to Bali Hai for dinner.
Thank goodness that the resort had made a reservation for us because the waiting room was packed full of people waiting to get a table for dinner. We were lucky enough to walk right into the Polynesian-themed restaurant and get a table right next to the glass that overlooked the beautiful crystalline waters.
The restaurant was filled with tables of people laughing, and celebrating life together over delicious cuisine. We started dinner by sharing the coconut shrimp appetizer. The deep fried coconut covered shrimp came served with papaya salad and a ginger lime dipping sauce. The dish brought us right back to the beaches of Hawaii with every bite.
My daughter and I ordered the special to share for dinner. The dish featured perfectly cooked slices of steak with mushrooms and a creamy white sauce. Together we savored every bite of the delicious special prepared by the chef.
My son ordered the macaroni and cheese off the kids menu but spent most of the evening walking outside to capture pictures of the beautiful sunset and scenery.
Dinner wouldn’t be complete without sharing a decadent dessert. Our tastebuds were tantalized with every bite of the warm chocolate cake with sweet amarena cherries, pistachio ice cream, and chocolate bark.
When planning dinner at Bali Hai in San Diego, I recommend making reservations in advance and trying one of their famous mai tais. The restaurant is located at 2230 Shelter Island Drive in San Diego.
