Authentic Italian Sandwiches at Stefano’s
If you are in the mood for a high-quality panini, I highly suggest going to Stefano’s in Yorba Linda located in the same parking lot as Chili’s (aka Packing House) shopping center.
The Stefano family acquired the former Golden Baked Ham store in 2003 and have expanded their menu to include their signature mouth-watering paninis, salads soups and desserts.
With every bite, you can tell right away that Stefano’s takes pride in their Italian roots. There is always a lunch rush, but it is well worth the wait.
The staff is very friendly, and you get the feeling that there are ‘regulars’ seated throughout the restaurant. One teenage girl, told me that she always orders the Italian Wedding soup and her father (former waiter and self-professed food critic) comes for the paninis.
It’s the kind of restaurant where you want to have a leisurely lunch with girlfriends. While spending time with your family, you’ll enjoy their fresh salads. One of my favorite salads is the orzo salad and their broccoli salad has just the right amount of bacon and sun-dried tomatoes.
Another Italian inspired salad that I loved was a tortellini antipasto, with artichokes, olives and salami. Delicious!
Now let’s move on to the paninis which looking around, is a must-have! The two crowd pleasers are the Romeo, with savory tri-tip, caramelized onions, provolone cheese and their tangy house aioli. This really makes the sandwich beyond satisfying.
A contrast to the sweet tasting Romeo, is the Golden baked ham panini with swiss. I think what really makes it, is the honey mustard with just the right amount of a spicy- kinda- kick. The bread is perfectly crispy on the outside and the consistency is perfect on the inside.
The Romeo is new on the menu because, Stefano’s once made a french onion soup for local firefighters, and the guys thought a nice tri-tip sandwich would be a nice pairing with the soup. I can tell that the menu is a labor of love and that they really listen to their customers for feedback on their specials.
It was very fun to be one of the first to try their ‘Juliette’ panini, which they plan to add to the menu very soon. It was simply the most amazing and original dessert I have ever had. Think of apple pie in a panini with butterscotch, cannoli creme, and cinnamon crispy goodness. So delicious!
I’ve always thought of Stefano’s as a great place for lunch, but learned that they have extended their hours for dinner service and offer a great variety of wine and craft beers.
Call ahead for dinner reservations and learn about their special entrees for the evening. Also, don’t forget to order your hams from Stefano’s for the holidays and remember to cater your special office parties and special occasions.
