Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Authentic Pizza Napoletana at Settebello

Settebello.2

You can’t walk past Settebello without being overwhelmed by the aromas that surround the restaurant. Since I frequent my favorite Indian restaurant, Tamarind of London, on a regular basis I am continually tempted to dine at Settebello. The restaurant has a beautiful inviting open air dining ambiance with rich wood tables and relaxing couches. When planning a Mother/Daughter day at the spa, I finally made plans to dine with my daughter at Settebello.

From the moment that we walked into the restaurant, we felt at home. Guests were dining on the oversized couches and in the dining area. The restaurant has a hip vibe allowing guests to feel like they are dining in a restaurant on the streets of Napoli.

Since it was restaurant week, my daughter chose to order the prix fixe menu, and since I am watching my carb intake, I went with a traditional salad. The only downside that we faced when dining was the unusually slow service. After, placing our order with the waitress, it took a little over an hour for our first course to be served.

Once we finally got our first course, my daughter and I were starving, and ate the Caprese salad within seconds. The salad was seasoned perfectly, but the green tomatoes were a little harder that we would have hoped. It was presented beautifully and was a perfect prelude to our main course.

The highlight of the meal was, of course, the pizza. It was so delicious that it made us forget all about the slow service. The crust was soft, and the toppings were evenly distributed. My daughter chose “The Bianca” pizza that came with prosciutto crudo, arugula, Parmigiano, mozzarella and olive oil. While I came trying to watch my carbs, I couldn’t resist savoring a couple of pieces of her pizza.

I chose to order off the restaurant week menu and enjoyed the Insalata grande. The salad featured mixed greens, fresh tomatoes, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, mushrooms, pine nuts, cracked pepper, shaved Parmigiano and a balsamic vinaigrette. Everything was crisp and fresh with my only recommendation being to order it with the dressing on the side.

Clearly the only reason to dine at Settebello is for the pizza and the ambiance, and can’t wait to return to try the flavors of their different pizzas. Settebello is hosting the special 2-course prix fixe menu during the Newport Beach Restaurant Week until February 1st for $15 per person. Settebello is located at 7864 East Coast Highway in Newport Coast.
