Boudin Fresh New Spring Salads

Posted by on Apr 5, 2016 in American, Bakery, Featured, Reviews | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue Spring has sprung at your local Boudin where they are serving fresh and delicious seasonal salads for a limited time. I recently went to Boudin with my two children to see how the salads stack against other salads in the area and the flavors of the salads far exceeded my expectations. Boudin has always been my go-to place for soup or sandwiches, and this was my first time trying one of their salads. We placed our order at the cash registers in the front of the restaurant, filled our cups with sweet iced tea, and then took a seat in a comfortable booth to await our lunch. When the mouthwatering salads arrived at our table, we couldn’t wait to sink our taste buds into the fresh and healthy dishes. We began...

Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe in San Diego

Posted by on Sep 10, 2015 in Bakery, Featured, Travel | 0 comments

After spending the morning exploring the Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego, my kids had worked up a huge appetite. A lunch spot that I have been wanting to try for months, Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe, was just a short drive from the National Park. Once all our exploring was done, we headed over to the cafe to get some tasty sandwiches for lunch. I had heard that all of the bread and pastries were made fresh onsite daily, and I was thrilled to find out that it was true. When we walked into the restaurant, the kids got to see a real working bakery in action through all of the large glass windows. They got to see the big machinery, ovens, and racks of freshly made pastries. As we made our way toward the counter...

20 Years of Sugar Bliss at Paradise Donuts and Deli

Posted by on Feb 11, 2015 in Bakery, Best of OC, Featured, Reviews | 0 comments

After an awful lunch with my two little kids, and my kids being so good about not being wasteful by eating all their food, I treated them to a donut at the neighboring donut shop. We walked across the parking lot to Paradise Donuts and Deli where we were immediately greeted by the owners. We looked at the donut case that was partially bare (although it was pushing 3ish). While the kids were taking their time debating about what sweet treat they were going to order from the glass case, I noticed a family that was having sandwiches inside the shop. The sandwiches were packed with tons of meat and cheese, and not the kind of deli sandwich I would have expected to see being served in a donut shop. The owner must have heard me saw “wow”...

Guests are invited to select their favorite cupcake flavor and then have it magically transformed into a rich and delicious “cupcake” milkshake. The options are endless with this new sweet treat at our favorite OC cupcake shop. When celebrating my son’s birthday last month, we ended the celebration by ordering “cupshakes” to take with us to enjoy on our way home. My son took the cookies and cream cupcake and had them turn it into a cookies and cream flavored milk shake that was delectably delicious. The cupshake doesn’t taste like a traditional milkshake. It has the sweet flavors of the cupcake along with the...

The hottest new bakery in Orange County just opened up at the South Coast Collection (SOCO), SusieCakes. The new bakery opened with a big family celebration featuring music, face painting, balloon artists, treats and more! SusieCakes was founded by Susan Sarich in 2006 featuring desserts with no-artificial flavors and preservatives. The first location opened in Brentwood and has expanded to multiple locations including the new Costa Mesa location. The celebration of the new bakery opening started with family-friendly music pumping throughout the SOCO courtyard. The kids were lining up for balloon animals and face painting while the bakers came around with trays full of goodies to sample. My kid’s favorite was the whoopie pies, while my tastebuds tantalized over the red velvet cupcakes. After we were done having a sampling of the different desserts offered at SusieCakes, we...

Celebrating Back-to-School at French’s Pastry

Posted by on Sep 8, 2014 in Bakery, Reviews, Uncategorized | 0 comments

It has been a tradition since I was a child to visit to French’s Pastry for a special back-to-school treat. After all the pressures of meeting new friends, getting settled in a new classroom and adjusting to the new schedule, my mom would always take me to French’s for my favorite sweet treat. Now that I am a mom, I share this tradition with my children. After a busy first week of school, the kids got released early on Friday, and I took them to French’s Pastry. They still act surprised when I pull into the parking lot after all these years of taking them to the bakery at the beginning of the school year. This year was extra special because thanks to Groupon, the kids were able to get $30 worth of treats to enjoy throughout the...

Community Supported Bakery Program (CSB) Starts in Orange County

Posted by on Apr 1, 2014 in Bakery | 0 comments

Families in Orange County can now get fresh, local bakery items through the all-new Community Supported Bakery (CSB) program at The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano. Each month, families can order signature loaves using ingredients from The Ecology Center’s harvest. The program is set-up similar to the Community Supported Agriculture Program (CSA) to help families purchase fresh products sourced from local farmers, or in this case bakers. It will help families to get bread with limited packaging and preservatives to help live healthier lifestyles. This month’s offerings include: Campagne – meaning “country” in French, it is a traditional French country bread made using liquid levain sourdough starter and a combination of wheat and rye flours which give this bread its rich, smokey flavor and darker crumb. Rosemary Sourdough Boule – loaves are leavened with naturally occurring wild...

A “Swell” Donut Shop in Laguna Beach

Posted by on Mar 26, 2014 in Bakery, Featured, Reviews | 0 comments

Before heading down to the beaches in Laguna, we always make a stop at our favorite donut shop in Laguna – South Swell Donuts. The small family owned donut shop makes the freshest donuts in town, but also has some other sweet treats for guests to enjoy. While the kids always navigate towards their fresh donuts, I cannot resist their Pho. It is one of my favorite places to get Pho in Orange County and it’s always loaded with delicious vegetables in a flavorful broth. For just $7, you’ll get a large bowl of rice noodle soup served with basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapeno (my favorite) and lime with your choice of beef, shrimp or chicken. It is the perfect way to warm up your tummy on a cold afternoon in Orange County. Today we did it backwards...

Panera Bread Holiday Offerings

Posted by on Dec 5, 2013 in American, Bakery, Featured, Reviews | 0 comments

True confession. I love Panera Bread so much that MyPanera card is so scratched up you can’t even read the barcode. So you can imagine how happy I was when a Panera franchise opened last summer in my neighborhood of Huntington Beach. One of the things I like about Panera Bread bakery-cafes are their seasonal menus (yes, and their strong free Wi-Fi!) For the holidays, they are taking comfort food to a delicious new level. Consider the Fontina Grilled Cheese Sandwich, with Vermont white cheddar, fontina cheese, reduced-fat chive and onion cream cheese spread on an Italian four cheese blend, melted to perfection on a thick traditional French white bread, called miche. Try the Chicken Tortellini Alfredo Pasta, which is a rich blend of ricotta, Swiss and Romano cheeses in Alfredo sauce, topped with smoked, pulled antibiotic-free chicken and...
