Saturday Brunching at Spear Steak and Seafood House

Posted by on Aug 9, 2016 in Breakfast, Dining News, Reviews | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue Brunch and me. We have a love-hate relationship. Every brunch starts out the same for me. I start by drooling over the Eggs Benedict smothered in hollandaise sauce. Oh my. And bagels. Give me a great Everything Bagel smothered in cream cheese and lox, with a sliced tomato and capers and I am in heaven. The thing is, I rarely order these. And I pine for the days I could eat the carbs and heavy creams and sauces with abandon. Now I look at that portion of the menu, half of me wishing there were no better option so I would have an excuse to just order something decadent already and half of me praying for an option that will make me feel I’m not completely sacrificing deliciousness for being able...

Nekter Juice Bar Opens at South Coast Plaza

Posted by on Apr 13, 2016 in American, Breakfast, Dining News | 0 comments

South Coast Plaza is home to a variety of dining possibilities. From quick service favorites to white linen establishments, there are options for most tastes. However, one thing that the plaza didn’t realize they were missing was a juice bar. They had busy espresso bars, bars with extensive beer selections, even one serving housemade vermouth. Yet with the health-conscious society we live in, the inclusion of a spot that served green drinks wasn’t a factor– until now. Located in the same wing as the home stores (on street level, across from Champagnes French Bakery) is the recently launched Nekter Juice Bar. Opening festivities included specials on their beverages, with 15% of sales going to local non-profit Festival of Children. Per founder Alexis Schulze, “Opening at South Coast Plaza is especially wonderful because it gave us the opportunity to...

Sweet Bliss at poqetDONUTS in Irvine

Posted by on Dec 1, 2015 in Breakfast, Featured, Reviews | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue Dare I say it? As I have gotten older, I have slowly lost my desire to crave sweet treats – GASP! My taste buds have changed over the years where I have now found myself preferring salty over savory. I’ve tried many of the new cutting edge donut shops around Orange County that have honestly left me underwhelmed. I just can’t grasp the concept of paying almost $5 for a donut when I would be completely content with a simple sugar donut. When I heard about another new donut shop opening in Irvine, I was curious to see if it would stand out among the rest in Orange County, so I brought my two kids in for an afternoon treat. The hot new donut spot is called poqetDONUTS. It is a...

Best Brunch in OC: Who Song and Larry’s

Posted by on Oct 18, 2015 in Breakfast, Reviews | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue We recently discovered the best brunch in Orange County in the most unexpected spot at Who Song and Larry’s. I’ve been hearing a lot about their “hangover brunch,” and I had to go and see what all the hype was about. When I arrived with my family at the restaurant, I was expecting a traditional brunch menu or simple buffet but was immediately impressed when witnessing one of the most expansive brunches that I have ever seen in an OC restaurant. Located throughout the restaurant were mini food stations offering exceptional culinary masterpieces and authentic Mexican food. There was homemade tortillas being made fresh to order, elote, burrito bar, carving station, chocolate fountain, and more. The food choices were endless and all in a family-friendly atmosphere. While it was the taco...

Dutch Bros. Coffee in Redding

Posted by on Oct 5, 2015 in Breakfast, Coffee, Reviews, Travel | 0 comments

Before leaving the town of Redding to continue our family summer road trip, I couldn’t leave without trying some of the popular Dutch Bros. Coffee. I have been hearing about Dutch Bros. coffee forever, and couldn’t wait to see if their coffee lived up the hype surrounding their brand. There are multiple locations throughout the city, and while we went to one of their drive-thru locations, we still got out of the car to order our coffee. As we walked up to the window to order our drinks, we were immediately greeted by the friendliest staff I have ever come across at a coffee shop. They took their time to not only welcome me…but also my children! I ordered my usual latte with extra shots of espresso, and the kids ordered their smoothies. With it being in the...

Not Your Average Waffle at A Waffle Affair

Posted by on Sep 2, 2015 in Breakfast, Reviews | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue A Waffle Affair in Newport Beach has a unique variety of amazing waffles; we were thrilled to be invited to taste some of their popular items. When we first walked in, we noticed the inside of the restaurant is very chic. A beautiful crystal chandelier hangs above a tall table, and all white booths and tables line the walls. When you first walk in you will order from the counter in front of you. When looking at the menu it was hard to choose what I wanted to try. They have over 21 varieties of waffles. Some waffles are sweet while others are savory. Lucky for me I was handed a tasting menu that had a little bit of everything. First up was the Hot Dog – Bits And Dip. It...

We dined as a guest of Universal Studios There is only one way to start your day at Universal Studios Hollywood, and that is with a giant donut at Lard Lad Donuts. I had heard about these giant sweet donuts from friends and made sure to plan on getting one of the sweet treats with my kids during our recent visit. When we ordered the giant donut, my kids could not believe their eyes. It was one of the largest donuts that they had ever seen, and they couldn’t wait to sink their tastebuds into the sweet treat. We all sat together at one of the outdoor tables and gobbled up every last crumb of the massive donut before starting our day exploring Universal Studios Hollywood. The donut is called “The Big Pink” and is priced at $4.99. Guests...

Authentic Diner Dining at Frankie and Lola’s in Morro Bay

Posted by on Jul 11, 2015 in Breakfast, Travel | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of the venue On our first morning in Morro Bay, we woke up hungry and ready to try the favorite local diner, Frankie and Lola’s. With raving Yelp reviews, the restaurant truly lives up to their reputation offering visitors a true diner dining experience. We took our seat on the outdoor patio where we could see partial views of the water and enjoyed the cool breezes while sipping on a cup of “sexy” coffee. The kids menu was one of the most reasonably priced kids menus that I’ve ever seen and also featured healthy choices – shocking right? My two older kids ordered the Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, and my younger son decided to order the kid’s breakfast plate. The pancakes were huge and came with either powdered sugar or chocolate chips. The kids...

We dined as a guest of Bruxie What can I say? Bruxie has done it again. Not only have they made the most amazing waffle sandwiches, but now they are making some fantastic salads too. We visited their Irvine location for a little R&D and got to sample some of their new menu items. I was very impressed with the quality of the food. At Bruxie, they go out of their way to bring customers the freshest food possible. From their handcrafted Pure Cane Sugar Sodas to the fabulous Frozen Custard, they have truly made Bruxie one of a kind. Customers can get a waffle sandwich with many different fresh toppings. If waffles are not what you are craving (I have no idea why they would not be) then please your palate with many different offerings. Their cheesy Irish...

We dined as a guest of IHOP My family is pancake lovers. When we found out about the all-new summer stacks at IHOP, we could not wait to come in and try the sweet new breakfast dishes. While on our way up to the mountains to drop our son off at summer camp, we stopped into IHOP on Father’s Day for breakfast. The restaurant was packed with lots of families waiting for a table, but the staff quickly got families in and out while offering superior service on Father’s Day. While we sipped on our warm cup of coffee, we took the time to say “good-bye” to our son before taking him to summer camp. Two of my older son’s favorite things come together with the blueberry lemonade pancakes. The dish came with two buttermilk pancakes filled with blueberries...

More Than Just Bagels at Bagels & Brew

Posted by on May 10, 2015 in Breakfast, Reviews | 0 comments

It’s not just bagels, and there is no “beer” involved in dining at Bagels & Brew. Our local bagel shop is more than just that by offering premier lunches and some of the best family breakfast in South Orange County. During Mother’s Day weekend, me and my daughter went to Bagel’s & Brew for breakfast, and for the first time explored off their traditional “bagel” breakfast menu. My daughter kept insisting that she wanted to order her favorite bagel and cream cheese. Since we were going to have a busy day cover the red carpet premiere for “Tomorrowland” I wanted to make sure she had a big breakfast. Her sweet tooth took over when ordering, and navigated her towards the cinnamon french toast. The dish came with four large pieces of brioche french toast drizzled with cinnamon, butter, and...

We dined as a guest of IHOP The moment that I found out about the return of the Brioche French Toast at IHOP, I couldn’t wait to come in and try the dishes out for myself. Before I could get a chance to come in and try the Brioche French Toast at IHOP, my husband and kids beat me to it by making a trip when I was out of town. The moment that I returned from my trip – all the kids could talk about was the epic breakfast they had with their dad at IHOP. The Brioche French Toast was first introduced to French Toast lovers two years ago at IHOP, and this year they brought back the popular Classic Bananas Foster Brioche French Toast! It came with sliced bananas caramelized in a buttery sugar glaze and...

A Step Back in Time at the Silverado Cafe

Posted by on Feb 18, 2015 in American, Breakfast, Featured, Reviews | 0 comments

Take a step back in time to when Orange County was full of horses, ranches and roaming buffalo by dining at the Silverado Cafe in Silverado. My friend has been dining at this cafe for many years and recommended that I try it. So, when my kids had the morning off from school, we took a drive into what felt like we were driving into another era in the Silverado canyons. As we drove down the country road, we stopped to admire horses on the side of the road and explore small trails. Around every corner is a hidden gem filled with a rich history along the road the leads to the cafe. The cafe is located in the heart of a small town nestled in-between a library and post office. The kids fell in love with the...

Delicious Donut Discovery at Donut Storr

Posted by on Jan 23, 2015 in Breakfast, Dessert, Reviews | 0 comments

I have driven past the Donut Storr every day when taking my kids to school for the past three years. I’ll be honest that it does not look very inviting from the outside. When I found, myself getting every single green light on the way to taking the kids to school and had an extra twenty minutes to spare I decided to take the kids in to check it out. The donut shop has almost five stars on Yelp (which is not easy to get), and I immediately found out why. Inside the tiny donut shop was a case full of every kind of donut that my kids could ask for. There are about 3-4 small benches, and all were full of families having donuts together. We patiently waited for somewhere to sit and have our donuts together....
