Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Catch a Wave this Summer at Island’s Restaurant

We dined as a guest of Island’s

Catch a wave into your local Island’s Restaurant this summer for their smokin’ hot summer menu dining options. Island’s is our favorite family dining destination, and you can always find us biting into our favorite juicy burger or tacos at our local Island’s once a week. After spending a week in Mexico, the kids were craving their favorite burgers, so we headed down to Island’s to check-out what is new on their summer menu while enjoying some of our favorite dishes.

Planning a visit to Island’s without the kids? They have happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-7pm in their festive tiki style bar. I caught up with my girlfriends after traveling for a week during their happy hour before retreating to the dining room to enjoy dinner with my family.

There are two new drinks on the summer menu at Island’s that will have you screaming Cowabunga! My girlfriend had their hand shaken Strawberry Daiquiri while I got a little spicy with their Spicy Mango Shandy.

Both of the drinks are the perfect summer drink that will leave you dreaming of the crystalline sandy beaches of Hawaii right in our backyard of Orange County this summer.

Your family cannot visit Island’s Restaurant without starting dinner with their melted cheese fries. Make sure and ask for extra of their ranch, because you will want it to make this summer cheesy appetizer epic.

When it came time for dinner, my older son decided to order off the adult menu with The Wedge. The burger perfectly accommodated his food allergies while filling up his tummy with delicious goodness. The Wedge comes with applewood smoked bacon, melted cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo inside of a toasted bun – do I need to say more? The picture should have your tastebuds watering.

Since we eat a diet rich in vegetables, our daughter’s favorite meal at Island’s is their Kaanapali Kobb Salad. The salad comes with grilled chicken, applewood bacon, avocado, bleu cheese chunks, chopped hard-boiled egg, tomatoes and scallions on a bed of crispy chopped lettuce. The salad comes tossed with a kobb dressing, but my kids cannot resist the ranch at Island’s, so she always opts for the ranch instead (with the bleu cheese chunks on the side).

When is comes to our youngest – it is always the same – the sandcastle (aka grilled cheese). A kid after my own heart who loves a piece of melted cheese inside of two pieces of toasted bread. What could be better?

While my husband normally orders the spicy Kilauea Burger, this time he tried their new summer burger, THE HEAT WAVE BURGER!! My husband loves a burger that packs a lot of heat, and this quickly became his new all-time favorite burger. Inside of a warm toasted bun is Serrano and green chilies, pepper jack cheese, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. This burger is perfect to enjoy after a long day surfing in the summer swells of the OC.

While I came to Island’s planning to try something new, I could not resist favorite dish – the Baja Tacos. These tacos come with just the perfect amount of onions, bell peppers and chicken wrapped inside of two warm flour tortillas, and served with sour cream, guacamole and their pico de gallo.

We finished our dinner by surprising the kids with their chocolate lava and kona pie. The chocolate lava comes with a fudge brownie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Then drizzled with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, roasted almonds and cherry on top. (We opted to have no almonds due to a nut allergy with our oldest son). While the chocolate lava was our kids favorite dessert, the kona pie brought back Hawaiian honeymoon memories between my husband and I. The pie tasted just like the “hula pie” that we had on our first night together as a married couple in Hawaii, and we reminisced about our honeymoon memories together while enjoying every bite of the delicious dessert.
