Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Creating New Family Memories at The Ritz Prime Seafood Restaurant

We dined as a guest of the venue

Some of my fondest childhood memories were from dining at The Ritz Restaurant in Newport Beach with my parents. I would always get dressed up in my prettiest dress complete with tights and patent leather shoes before going to dine at The Ritz with my family.

It was a place where we celebrated my Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary, birthdays and family milestones. When the time had come for the iconic Ritz Restaurant to close their doors, many people were saddened by the news that a place where so many of us created family memories together would be gone forever.

That was until they decided to re-open their doors offering the same Ritz Restaurant that we all know and love but with a fresh new look, vibe, and location.

When the restaurant first re-opened at their beautiful new waterfront location, I planned a special date night with my husband. Now that I am married, and have my children, it is time to start creating memories at the all-new Ritz Restaurant with the family that my husband and I have created together.

We began dinner by sipping on a glass of wine while looking out at the crystalline water. My husband knew how much the old Ritz Restaurant meant to me as a child, and he learned why after spending just a few minutes in the beautiful atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant is bright and decorated with cool refreshing colors. There is a giant glass window where guests dining in the restaurant can see the kitchen full of fresh seafood waiting to be prepared for guests dining in the restaurant.

For our first course, my husband began with the oysters, and I savored the deliciousness of the crab and hamachi roll. The oysters came freshly prepared on a bed of ice with smokey brown sugar and bourbon butter. The crab and hamachi roll arrived at our table prepared to perfection with avocado, mango, tobiko, and lime.

For the main course, I had the most memorable lobster dish. The lobster came prepared with burgundy truffles, herb butter, blistered lemons, and levain. It was fresh, delicious and unforgettable – I am still craving more of this dish weeks later.

My husband fell in love with the whole branzino that featured pickled cauliflower caponata, pine nuts, and za’atar. The fish tasted like it had just been caught that morning and prepared perfectly for the evening.

The big question of the night was – how is the famous Ritz egg? Well, they have made some changes to the iconic egg. The change is subtle, and elevates the popular dish to a whole new level.

Our evening was memorable, and one that we will never forget. The Ritz Restaurant is now one of our favorite places to bring our children on special occasions to create memories that will last a lifetime.
