Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Family-Friendly Sushi at Wokcano in Santa Ana

We dined as a guest of the venue

Wokano Restaurant

Wokcano opened up in Santa Ana a little over a month ago. It is an Asian restaurant that has an excellent bar and serves Sushi and other Asian favorites.

My husband and I along with our toddler were invited to have a lunch date here. We went around 1:00 PM and it was not overly crowded. We were quickly seated and left to look over the menu.

Inside Wokano Santa Ana

We decided to start with their crispy garlic Brussels sprouts and some shishito peppers in soy sauce. We loved the Brussel sprouts. They were crispy, and the garlic was not overpowering. My three-year-old was gobbling them up. He thought the crispy outer pieces were chips, and they were so very flavorful.

The shishito peppers were cooked to perfection, but we would have liked them more if they came with a dipping sauce. We are a sauce family, so that may not matter to any of you. If you love shishitos, you will not be disappointed with them here.

After the appetizers, we had some sushi. I got the Crunchy Roll – Shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese, tempura crunch and topped with eel sauce. It was delightful. The shrimp pieces were big and very fresh. I liked this roll a lot. I had never had a crunch roll with cream cheese but found myself loving it.

Wokano Sushi

My husband got their Volcano roll, and he liked it but wished it was a little spicier.

We also shared a great bowl of hot and sour soup. At this point, we were so full but still had our orange chicken, salad, and rice coming.

When the salad arrived it looked like any Asian lunch salad, but once we bit into it, we were in for a huge treat. The salad dressing was fantastic. Truly one of the best salad dressings I had ever had. It was a ginger dressing, and I loved it. I was so full, but could not stop myself from gobbling it all up. It was so good I can see myself going back just for this salad alone.

After enjoying everything our lunch entree arrived. The brown rice was very fluffy and flavorful, and the orange chicken was good, but not my favorite. I was looking for a more citrus flavor, and it was very mild. The taste was good, but maybe not what I had in mind.

Once we finished our meal we were able to talk to the manager. He was very nice and told us they have a happy hour on Monday and Tuesday from 3 pm to close and on Friday and Saturday from 9 pm until 2 am. It is hard to find restaurants open that late in Orange County.

They have a very nice bar inside with a few flat screen televisions around the restaurant and patio seating outside. I look forward to going back to try dinner here.

If you are not looking for a sit down in a restaurant experience, you can order online and enjoy their fantastic food.
