Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Fast and Tasty Japanese Food at Tokyo Bento

My daughter and I love Japanese food. When I saw that Tokyo Bento was coming to the Aliso Viejo Town Center, I could not wait to plan a lunch date with my daughter. Before spending the afternoon at the Festival of Children this past weekend, we went to Tokyo Bento for lunch.

When we first walked up to the restaurant, we could smell the aroma from the delicious food lingering in the air. Once inside we found a large sign that explains how their restaurant is laid out. It is a 1-2-3 step ordering process where customers can customize their order to their liking, kind of like a Chipotle.

We started by selecting the type of rice (or bao) before picking the meat and sides. These three steps were simple, but it was the sauces that had us stumped. There are so many different sauces to choose from that it was hard to make a decision, so we ordered a couple to find the sauce that we would want the next time we returned.

I ordered my bento with the white rice, Japanese bbq rib-eye, garlic edamame and Peruvian salsa. The serving size has huge, and it was a meal that my daughter and I could have easily shared. The rib-eye was tender, and the Peruvian salsa was the perfect addition to the meal.

While I ordered the rib-eye, my daughter ordered her bento with the teriyaki chicken. She also got a lot of more food by adding a side salad. The teriyaki chicken bento went well with the garlic aioli sauce, but if your kids like an extra kick with their meal then I recommend going with the wasabi sour cream.

We enjoyed lunch on their large outdoor patio. (It gets a little hot inside the restaurant because of the wok cooking)

Tokyo Bento is now my go-to spot for a quick and filling lunch in the Aliso Viejo Town Center. Your kids will love the flavors of the food while parents will love the convenience and simplicity of the restaurant.

Tokyo Bento is located 26731 Aliso Creek Road in Aliso Viejo. They are open seven days a week from 11am to 9:30pm.

  1. Enjoyed this place too until I saw they use Styrofoam. In this day and age and with health and environmental conscious Orange County, this is ridiculous. For the future of our children and children’s children, this is unacceptable.
