Kid-friendly Plant-based Menu at Project Juice

Posted by on Aug 27, 2015 in Featured, Gluten-Free, Reviews, Vegetarian | 1 comment

We dined as a guest of Project Juice Watching my picky eater eat an entire raw spiced lentil wrap made me overwhelmed with joy. My two older children are always up for an epicurean adventure, but then there is always my youngest “picky eater” who is always resistant to trying new foods – especially healthy foods. Last week, I took all three of my kids into the Project Juice in Laguna Beach to sample their all-new plant-based food menu. I was shocked to see that it was my picky eater who devoured almost every raw dish prepared for lunch. We started our lunch with a refreshing watermelon berry juice mixed with sparkling water. It was made with organic, cold-pressed watermelon, strawberries, young coconut water, green apple, and lime. It was the perfect summer drink to enjoy on a warm...

Dr. Andrew Weil and Chef Arik Markus Share True Food Recipes

Posted by on Nov 21, 2014 in Cooking Classes, Gluten-Free, Recipes | 0 comments

We dined as a guest of True Food Kitchen I’m not gonna lie, I love bacon, butter, steak, cream sauces as much as the next person and I don’t think I have it in me to give up meat and rich foods entirely. However I do appreciate when I find dishes that are not only delicious, but also healthy, especially when they are creative and incorporate ingredients that provide strong health benefits. Last week I was invited to attend a cooking demo with Dr. Andrew Weil, co-owner of True Food Kitchen and Executive Chef Arik Markus. Dr. Weil, a trained Medical Doctor, is a leading authority on integrated medicine and a renowned author, blogger, and speaker on health, aging, and healing. He is a proponent of sticking to an anti-inflammatory diet to help reduce inflammation that can lead to...

We attended as a guest of Veggie Grill We were invited to the grand opening of Veggie Grill’s newest location at the Irvine Market Place.  When we arrived, a line of eager patrons were wrapped around the building. Who wouldn’t want to eat healthy, great tasting food and with their new summer menu you have so many more amazing choices.  I have to say that this new menu is my favorite to date and I highly recommend you checking it out. I knew what was in store for me so I invited my fellow OC Mom, Chantile to join me for an amazing time.  She hadn’t been to Veggie Grill before but after our visit she became the newest convert.    Once you try it, you get hooked.  Again tasty, healthy, organic meals all made fresh to order – how...

Managing Food Allergies at Medieval Times

Posted by on Mar 31, 2014 in American, Featured, Gluten-Free | 2 comments

Having severe food allergies is never easy for a child to dine out. 99% of the time my son, Andrew, brings his own food along in a lunchbox whenever we dine out, or he eats his safe foods before we leave. When we were planning a visit to Medieval Times over Spring Break, he did not want to miss out on the best part – getting to eat with his hands while cheering with the crowd for his knight to win. We packed his sack lunch, a giant bottle of Benadryl, filled his fanny pack with extra epi-pens, and warned him that we did not think they would accommodate his allergies with the large amount of guests they had – and we were so happy to be wrong! The moment that we took our seat on the “green...

Gluten-Free Dining at Farrell’s

Posted by on Sep 3, 2013 in Featured, Gluten-Free, Reviews | 0 comments

My son has been suffering from severe food allergies for most of this life. This past week, he was diagnosed as being gluten intolerant, which changes the entire way he lives with his food allergies. Instead of completely cutting gluten from his diet, we have been slowly eliminating so that he will not notice the impact. When doing our back-to-school shopping last week at The Shops at Mission Viejo, we enjoyed a mid-day lunch at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour. What I was not expecting, was the vast variety of gluten-free dining options available for my son to choose from. Farrell’s offers a special dairy-free menu, and a gluten-free menu. My son was able to order the gluten-free burgers with a side a fruit, and did not feel any different from the other children dining at the table. The...

SPIN Pizza Spins Into Orange County

Posted by on May 21, 2013 in Featured, Gluten-Free, Italian, Reviews | 0 comments

SPIN Neapolitan Pizza is not just another pizza place opening in Orange County. The owners of our favorite BBQ joint, Lucille’s is first to bring this popular franchise to the OC. When I first walked into SPIN Pizza, I automatically knew that it will be a huge success in our town. With their chic atmosphere, large variety of food allergy option and savory food – I could not think of one reason not to dine here. Let’s be honest. When going to see a game or show at the Honda Center, the dining options surrounding the stadium are limited. The last time we went to a show at the Honda Center we ended up at some scary burger joint with cockroaches climbing on the walls. SPIN Pizza is located just blocks away from the Honda Center and Angel’s...
