Healthy Family Dining at Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill
We were recently invited to Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill to hear about their restaurants in Orange County into Ventura as well as the future location in Portland, Oregon. Featuring both existing menu items as well as some tasty new dishes. Sharky’s launched in 1992 featuring a healthier spin on mexican food. Many of us are conscientious about what we put into our bodies so it was refreshing to know of another local choice that keeps it real. They use fresh ingredients with all natural chicken, beef, wild caught salmon, organic local greens & GMO free corn & oil; yes! Patrons can feel good about what they are eating and putting into their bodies with their menu items & we love that they search out vendors and consult with cooks to create a healthy eating experience.
We tried a variety of delicious items: the power plate featuring wild caught fish of the day; mahi mahi, grilled to perfection served with our new favorites organic poblano brown rice & organic quinoa with veggies. Wow, we never knew quinoa could taste so good! This plate was so satisfying and met our fitness needs too! We also sampled a salmon mesquite taco and tempura battered shrimp taco. We’ve been back twice now for both tacos, but they hooked us on the tempura battered taco! What a decadent indulgence but still within our calorie range if we go easy on another meal of the day.
Now we all enjoy a pizza every now and then, so if you are trying to maintain a healthy choice but indulge; try the Spicy 4 Cheese. A jalapeno-cilantro tortilla crust with tomatillo cheese sauce, tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, sour cream and we added chicken as well. Whoa, our taste buds were alive; both from the flavor explosion and the mild heat of the crust.
We really like how you can modify each menu item, they allow you to create your own dish featuring which protein source you prefer. It works well for those with fitness or dietary goals as well as kids; there is something for everyone. They even have some secret menu items created; one is the AJ Burrito or Bowl, a vegan burrito or bowl. Good news, right?
In addition, they have some delightful beverages and we couldn’t get enough of the flavorful, refreshing iced Watermelon Basil Lemonade; perfect for the heat we’ve been experiencing here in Southern California. You can also enjoy a new iced Ginger Hibiscus Green Tea, a mouth watering sangria as well as ice cold beer featured from the local Irvine brewery; Backstreet Brewery.
So, the next time you want to go grab a healthy meal, go to your nearest Sharky’s to try something new. Don’t forget to get one of the new beverages and a tasty bite to eat! You can certainly feel good about your choices and enjoy a delicious meal. You might even see me there too!
