Newport Beach Restaurant Week is one of my favorite dining events of the year, and I look forward to visiting my favorite Newport Beach restaurants throughout the week to sample their prix fixe menus. Since I had my younger son home from school today, I could not wait to bring him to Provenance to have lunch in their outdoor garden. With him being my picky eater, I did not know what to expect when bringing him for lunch and after the first bite of his lunch he said it was his new favorite restaurant.

With it being a little chilly this afternoon, we started with a warm cup of tea on the outdoor patio… kids love tea. The Provenance Newport Beach restaurant week menu is only $15 for three courses. The menu is one of my favorite menus featured during restaurant week with a wide variety of mouth-watering options.

I began with a cup of the butternut squash bisque topped with creme fraiche. The warm soup boasted a rich flavor with tantalizing spices. After my son had one sip of the soup, he could not stop until the last drop was gone. If my picky eater can eat a butternut squash bisque, then Provenance is 100% kid-friendly.

For the main course, I enjoyed the big farm chicken salad. The salad featured natural chicken breast with grapes, walnuts, celery, dried cranberries, and poppy seeds paired with mixed heirloom lettuces, avocado, red onions, cucumbers, and heirloom cherry tomatoes. The salad was served with two pieces of brioche toast that could be used to make your own sandwich or to nibble on while eating the salad. The soft warm bread topped with the chicken salad practically melted in my mouth with every bite. The salad was crispy and fresh like it had just been picked from the garden, and was filling yet not too heavy making it a lovely lunch.

While I savored the delicious salad, my son had the cheese flatbread (not on the NB Restaurant Week menu). He said, “This is the best pizza of my life,” after taking his first bite. He was kind enough to let me have a bite, and I definitely agreed with him. The flatbread was served with handmade french fries and a small cup of freshly cut fruit.

Finally, we ended our lunch by sharing the brownie decadence. It was like smores on a plate with a housemade toasted marshmallow, walnuts, and a creamy chocolate brownie. It was the perfect ending to our lunch.
