OC Meets Napa & Baja Culinary Event
AltaMed, California’s largest community health organization, is excited to announce the return of OC Meets Napa & Baja on Saturday, July 16th after a successful inaugural event in 2015.
The second annual fundraiser, held in San Juan Capistrano, will bring Latino chefs from Orange Country and Baja together with Latino-owned wineries from Napa and Baja for a unique celebration of culture and flavor. Proceeds from all ticket sales will go toward supporting the essential health programs AltaMed spearheads in Orange County’s underserved communities.
New and returning restaurants will offer guests an unforgettable experience that highlights the richness of local Latin cuisine and culture. Participants include local favorites like popular Anepalco’s Café, known for dishes that combine traditional Mexican ingredients with French techniques; Felix Continental Café, long-revered for its authentic Cuban cuisine; and Eqeko, celebrated for its contemporary takes on Peruvian staples and comfort dishes, among others. Guests will also be able to sample cuisine from Baja, Mexico courtesy of participants like Chef Nancy León Álvarez of Chan’s Bistro in Tijuana, Chef Martin San Roman of La Terrasse San Roman in Valle de Guadalupe, and Chef Mariela Manzano of El Lugar de Nos in Tecate.
Complementing the array of flavorful bites will be sips from members of the Mexican American Vintner Association (MAVA) in Napa and Baja-based Latino vintners, highlighting their contributions to winemaking in both regions. Visiting Napa winemakers include Lupe Maldonado, who spent years working the area’s vineyards before purchasing a ten acre plot now home to the eponymous Maldonado Vineyards, and Rafael Rios III, who also grew up working in the region’s vineyards before going on to found Justicia Wines and co-found MAVA. A curated selection of varietals from the up-and-coming Baja wine region will include Alximia Vino Elemental, Baron Balche, Bodegas de Santo Tomas and more, providing guests with a unique glimpse into the tastes evolving from the peninsula.
In addition to the authentic food and exquisite wines, guests can enjoy music from Grammy award-winning music director Jose Rizo and his band, Mongorama, as well as the Los Angeles-based Boogaloo Assassins. General admission tickets ($125) will go on sale starting May 16th and can be purchased online through the event website. For additional information, please visithttp://www.altamed.org/ocmeetsnapa
