It’s summer and time for the return of Slapfish’s Summer of Sustainability campaign where guests can enjoy fresh sustainable meals at great prices. The fun begins today, June 16th, and will continue for the next six weeks. Each week, Slapfish, will release one new special dish for families to enjoy throughout the warm summer months. WEEK 1 – June 16 – June 22 Wild Pacific Albacore Tuna Melt Rustic sourdough | spinach, cucumber, tomato, flaked albacore | awesome sauce MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified, locally sourced and managed, the quality of this tuna can’t be beat. Troll-caught and pole-caught tuna, where the fish are caught by individual hooks targeted at them, preserves the quality of the fish, since they don’t spend any time scrambling in nets or then “drowning” once brought on board waiting their turn for processing. Sustainable Beachside Dining at Slapfish in Laguna Beach

Posted by on May 14, 2014 in Featured, Reviews, Seafood | 0 comments

Seafood + Sustainability = perfection Just minutes away from our house in Aliso Viejo, we have discovered our new favorite dining destination for sustainable seafood at Slapfish in Laguna Beach. The all-new restaurant is located right in the heart of Laguna Beach at the corner of PCH at Broadway. Our favorite feature of the restaurant is that is a “grab and go” style restaurant where families can get a healthy lunch and bring it just steps away to their family on Main Beach. Our family has been spending summer days on Main Beach in Laguna for years, and have been waiting for a healthy “grab and go” alternative to the Johnny Rockets on the corner. While gearing up for summer, we headed down to Laguna to try the menu options at the new restaurant, and we discovered a...

The Boiling Crab in Santa Ana

Posted by on Apr 5, 2014 in Featured, Seafood | 0 comments

Ever since my oldest son Sterling could eat table foods, he preferred more adult meal options. He would gladly skip over kid friendly foods such as chicken nuggets and pizza for things most little kids do not eat like: Sushi, lobster and crab legs. His love of seafood has taken us all over Orange County and the surrounding area in search of the best seafood restaurants. One place that really stands out to our family is, “The Boiling Crab in Santa Ana.” If you love seafood and want a no frills place to eat, that is sure to set your tastebuds on a fantastic trip down flavor town. Look no further. The Boiling Crab will be perfect for you. From the moment you step foot in the restaurant you will realize this place is very unique. Covering the...

Iconic Captain Jacks in Sunset Beach

Posted by on Apr 3, 2014 in Date Night, Reviews, Seafood | 0 comments

I have lived in South Orange County most of my life and never knew where Sunset Beach was until my Junior year in college. Granted North and South county sometimes seem much further apart than the 15 minutes that they are, but this little gem was not to be missed! Sunset Beach is a tiny beach town nestled between Seal Beach and Huntington Beach right at the front of Huntington Harbor. It’s a tiny strip off PCH – as in just a handful of stop lights – but it has huge character all its own. It’s a beach community right out of the 60s and something you simply will not find in the vast majority of Southern California, let alone Orange County. One of the icons of Sunset Beach is Captain Jack’s. This Prime Rib and Seafood Restaurant is...

An Unforgettable Dining Experience at Ways & Means Oyster House

Posted by on Nov 26, 2013 in Date Night, Featured, Seafood | 0 comments

A distinctive oyster house has just come to Old Towne Orange with the opening of Ways & Means. The all-new restaurant specializes in oysters, but also has a bountiful array of dishes for guests to have a memorable dining experience. We visited Ways & Means earlier this month to try some of the unique and intense flavors of their food paired with their extensive wine offerings. We started off the evening sitting at the intimate oyster bar while sinking our taste buds into their Salmon Rillettes served on homemade Guinness bread with red onion, watercress, and lemon aioli; and their Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs with wild watercress and lemon oil. The Guinness bread on the Salmon Rillettes is baked fresh daily on-site at Ways & Means creating an incredibly fresh appetizer. I have tasted many Lobster Emulsions before, but...

The franchise development company that assisted with the development has contributed to the growth of Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Qdoba Mexican Grill. “We have a focus on sustainable seafood and its appeal is not limited to the U.S.,” commented Chef Andrew Gruel, who started Slapfish in 2011 with Partner Jethro Naude, an Environmental Economist with deep roots in the global fishing industry. “Our decision to franchise was fueled by idea that we could spread our concept and its commitment to sustainability to a worldwide audience.” A spokesperson for the brand adds, “Slapfish presents quality...

Gluten-Free Heaven at Spikes Fish House

Posted by on Jan 13, 2012 in Reviews, Seafood | 0 comments

A gluten-free menu is not needed for allergy suffers at Spikes Fish House, which recently opened in Laguna Niguel. The fast, healthy fish house offers an abundance of gluten-free options off their regular menu. With freshly grilled fish and steamed vegetables, Spikes Fish House is heaven for gluten-free diners. While dining at Spikes Fish House, I had the pleasure of eating the freshly grilled mahi mahi with a large size of vegetables. If dining with my gluten-free son, I would opt for more vegetables instead of rice. Just notify the staff when dining at Spikes about your food allergies, and they will go above and beyond to make your dining experience safe and enjoyable. Everything at Spikes Fish House is freshly grilled fish boosting with flavor. There are two locations of Spikes Fish House in Laguna Niguel and...
