If you have ever dined at StoneFire Grill in one of their seven locations in Southern California, you most likely know that this small chain, founded owned and operated by sisters, Mary and Maureen Harrigan is known for its simple, fresh, quality ingredients with a focus on grilled meats. This is where their roots lie. There is even a window from the dining room into the kitchen where you can watch your tri-tips, baby back ribs, and chicken sizzling on the grill. For anyone who has been there more recently you also know that while menu items that satisfy the cravings of the carnivorous meat and potatoes lover are still a central part of their offerings, StoneFire Grill has embraced the rising popularity of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan foods by making them an integral part of their menu with the addition of several delicious, healthy and affordable new dishes.

Thursday I was able to sample some of these light, healthy additions to their Summer menu which buy the way, celebrates a few trendier ingredients such as roasted cauliflower and quinoa.

Whole roasted cauliflower with lemon tahini and parsley… a side dish that I could eat as a main course it’s so satisfying.

Roasted cauliflower salad with tomatoes and green onion… light and crunchy!

The Keen Green with quinoa, avocado, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, spinach, pesto, and parmesan cheese… so much flavor packed into this dish.

The roasted cauliflower pita with lemon tahini, chopped tomato, green onion, spicy cilantro-serrano sauce and Jerusalem pita…. nice and spicy!

The Caprese with smashed grape tomatoes, homemade pesto, fresh mozzarella, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and wild arugula on toasted ciabatta. This was my favorite sandwich.

Shrimp with fresh lemon, olive oil, garlic, chili flakes and parsley served on quinoa. As a quinoa and shrimp lover, this dish gets my vote.

They also have added several light, sandwiches including:

Traditional turkey: a turkey sandwich with red leaf lettuce, cranberry sauce, mayo, on whole grain bread

IMG_6593 - Version 2

Italian: a meatless sandwich with shredded lettuce, mayo, tomato, red onion, mozzarella cheese, Dijon mustard vinaigrette, on a French roll

Turkey salad: a sandwich with chopped celery, green onion, dried cranberry, red leaf lettuce on whole grain bread

The atmosphere is family friendly and casual, where you can grab a quick bite or you can unwind and enjoy one of their recently added craft beers or a glass of wine while you dine inside or outside on their patio. The prices also make taking the entire family out affordable even with a glass of wine or a beer.

Oh and after your guilt free meal you may just want to reward yourself with a piece of their carrot cake. It’s a family recipe and is some of the moistest I’ve had with wonderful texture… oops I lost control and snuck a bite before I took the picture!
