Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

The Book of Mormon Dinner at Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge

We dined as a guest of the venue

Book of Mormon Date Night

Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge is my favorite place to dine before seeing a production at The Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The Chef at Leatherby’s, Chef Ross, is one of the most innovative chefs in Orange County and creates culinary masterpieces themed for every production in the Broadway series at the Segerstrom.

While I have dined at Leatherby’s multiple times with my children, I have never brought my husband before. Since I was planning an unforgettable Book of Mormon date night, it would not have been complete without dinner at Leatherby’s before the show.

The minute that we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by the friendly staff who walked us to a table by the glass windows that overlook the beautiful Segerstrom Center. We sipped on a glass of chardonnay and toasted to an unforgettable evening out together.

Shrimp Salad

For the first course, my husband selected the “Orlando” that was a fresh and light tropical fruit salad topped with shrimp, pickled onion, avocado, greens and tossed with a citrus dressing.

Leatherby's Soup

While he went for the lighter choice, I was in the mood for something a little more comforting, so I selected the “Baptize Me” soup. I have never had soup as good as the ones prepared by Chef Ross at Leatherby’s, and this warm, creamy soup was everything that I hoped it would be.

Lamb Shank

Once our first course was complete, we were in for a treat with the main course. My husband was presented with a beautifully designed dish called “I am Africa” featuring a mouthwatering braised lamb shank over a bed of Moroccan couscous with apricot, pine nuts, roasted vegetables, and a cucumber mint yogurt. He savored every bite of his dish, and I was lucky enough to sneak my fork in for a tiny bite of the goodness he was enjoying.

Wild Salmon

It was the salmon that tantalized my taste buds on the menu, and every bite was delectable. The Wild Isle Salmon melted in my mouth with every bite, and it was paired to perfection with a forest mushroom risotto with asparagus, chives, and parmesan.

Tiramisu

fresh tiramisu

The “Spooky Mormon Hell Dream” was pure deliciousness. With my husband being Italian, he is picky when it comes to Tiramisu, and it rare that he finds one while dining out that can compare to the one that his mom makes when we come over for a visit, and he loved every bite of the tiramisu he was served. The delicious dessert featured espresso, Bailey’s, mascarpone, and chocolate cake.

Ice cream at Leatherbys

I went for the lighter dessert; the “I am Here for You.” The fresh and crisp dessert featured housemade ice cream and sorbet topped with fresh fruit.

The prix-fixe Book of Mormon menu will only be a Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge until April 3rd. It is priced at $47 per person, and wine pairing is available for an additional $21 per person. Reservations are highly recommended and are available online at opentable.com.
