Vessel Restaurant at the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego
We dined as a guest of the venue
One our favorite things about staying at the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego was dining at Vessel Restaurant. The restaurant came with the highest yelp ratings in the area and lived up to their expectation when we dined for dinner.
We had made reservations to dine at sunset, and even though it was extremely warm outside, decided to dine on the outdoor patio. Once the sun disappeared the temperature cooled, and we were given a spectacular show of bright, beautiful colors blending in the sky.
We began dinner with the delicious lobster macaroni and cheese. The appetizer featured a cheddar fondue, panko, chives and large pieces of fresh lobster. The sinful dish satisfied all our rich cravings and was the perfect prelude to our meal.
For the main dish, my son savored every bite of the short rib. The short rib was cooked to perfection and paired with a natural pan jus, Yukon potato puree, asparagus, and vegetables. They didn’t skimp on the large serving of meat, and he devoured every bite.
While my son was tempted by the short rib, it was the New York “steak frites” that captivated my attention. The steak came thinly sliced and cooked medium rare. It was complimented by confit tomato, house made steak sauce and upland cress.
My daughter was in the mood for the fall season to finally begin and ordered the butternut squash ravioli. The dish was the highlight of our meal featuring ricotta, pistachio, broccoli rabe and a rich sage-brown butter sauce. If you dine here – order this dish!
Our dinner ended with a rich molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream. After a busy day exploring the San Diego area, the meal was the perfect way to end our day. Once we were done with dinner, the kids got their swimsuits on and jumped into the resort swimming pool for an evening swim.
Whether your family is staying at the Kona Kai or just in the Point Loma area, you’ll not want to miss dining at Vessel Restaurant.
