Authentic Mexican Food at El Rinconcito in Redding
While spending a couple of days in Redding this summer, we couldn’t decide where to go for dinner. There were so many restaurant choices in the Redding area, with all of them having raving online reviews. There was one restaurant that stood out to us the most, so we made the choice to go to El Rinconcito for authentic Mexican food.
I drove past the restaurant at least twice before realizing it was tucked away behind a local gas station in a car repair and liquor store parking lot. Since I was traveling alone with my three children, I was nervous about going into a restaurant that was so hidden from the street, but all the raving online reviews couldn’t have steered us wrong.
When we walked into the small restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the family who owned the restaurant. Inside the restaurant is an open kitchen and just a couple of tables, but they do offer table service. Within seconds of being seated at our table, we were brought drinks from the server (even though we could access the soda fountain just steps away from our seat).
We started our dinner with the guacamole and chips, which was clearly some of the best guacamole that I have ever had. The kids and I loved the guacamole so much that we ended up ordering a second serving.
My little guy with food allergies kept his dinner simple by going with a quesadilla, and my picky eater ordered a steak taco. They both devoured their dinner within minutes, which is a sign of a good Mexican restaurant.
I went with the fajitas that came with a large serving of perfectly cooked steak and vegetables that I savored in a warm handmade corn tortilla. It was my daughters meal that was by far my favorite of the evening – the flautas. The dish was on the appetizer part of the menu but was enough food for two people. Inside of the crispy flour tortilla was warm shredded beef. The flautas were served with refried beans, queso fresco, and sour cream.
It wasn’t just the food that we fell love with at this restaurant but also the kind family that owns and operates it. They are truly passionate about providing their guests with a high-quality dining experienced in a relaxed family-friendly ambiance. We can’t wait to return for dinner at El Rinconcito the next time that we are visiting Redding. They are located at 2030 Eureka Way in Redding.
