Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Awesome’sauce’ New Slapfish Seafood Restaurant in Newport Beach

Growing up in Newport Beach, the Peninsula was my teenage hangout. I would work my Summer nights at Original Pizza, and then spend the rest of my free time laying out on the beach or riding bikes along the boardwalk with my girlfriends. Now that I am older and have children, I love bringing them back to the place where I had so many memories growing up. The only thing that has curbed us from bringing the kids down to the Peninsula on a regular basis was the lack of decent dining. For many years, there was only a handful of restaurants that were “family-friendly” in the area until the recent opening of multiple new family-friendly restaurants on the Peninsula including Slapfish Seafood.

My girlfriend and I were excited to check out the new restaurant, so we planned to have lunch on opening day of the new popular dining destination. The location of the restaurant is positioned in a great part of the Peninsula where it is easy to get in and out of and with plenty of parking..which is important when dining in this area. There is a decent amount of indoor dining space and a couple of outdoor dining tables for kid’s who might want to grab a quick bite after spending the day at the beach.

Spending many years in New England, my friend couldn’t resist ordering the lobster roll. The soft roll came packed with a large helping of fresh, sustainable lobster. There are no fillers at Slapfish just 100% real lobster. Guests have three options to order their lobster roll; chilled with lemon mayo, hot with drawn butter or chilled with awesome sauce. The lobster roll is sold at market price and is a perfect meal to have for your first time dining at Slapfish.

I knew after seeing a picture of the surf n’ turf lobster burger on the Slapfish Facebook page that it was what I was going to order. The mouthwatering burger came with a juicy beef patty topped with fresh lobster, shrimp, caramelized onions and drizzled with a sweet creamy awesome sauce. The burger was a little slice of heaven and now one of my favorite burgers in Orange County.

While we were having lunch, we bumped into some friends who joined us for lunch. My friend tempted us with the mermaid fries that she ordered. The cup of fresh fries came loaded with awesome sauce, habanero sauce, and a fried egg. The enticing side dish takes french fries to a whole new level, and I recommend not leaving Slapfish without ordering a cup or two.

Finally, our other friend let us have a taste of her “bowl of shrimp.” It is exactly that..a bowl of deep fried shrimp with a side of dipping sauce. This dish is a great option for families who have children who will only eat chicken nuggets when dining out. Kid’s won’t even know that they are eating fish, and it is a great alternative for the little chicken nugget lovers of America.

Slapfish is one of the greatest new additions to the Newport Peninsula and guaranteed to be a hit with locals and tourists. Pack the kid’s bikes into the minivan and stop in for lunch at Slapfish after spending the afternoon bike riding together as a family along the Boardwalk. Slapfish has locations in Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach and this location at 2727 Newport Blvd in Newport Beach.
