Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Dorn’s Original Breakers Cafe

We dined as a guest of Morro Bay

When we first arrived in Morro Bay, we checked into our hotel, and then walked over to the popular Dorn’s Original Breakers Cafe for dinner. The restaurant featured the most majestic panoramic views of Morro Bay, and we sat down to eat just as the sun began to set.

After we had sat down at the table, the kids walked to the outdoor patio where they admired the sunset while I relaxed and sipped on a glass of wine. Once the sun had finished setting, the kids joined me for what was going to be one of the most relaxing meals we had during our stay in Morro Bay.

The restaurant has the decor of a “date night” dining destination but with a relaxed family-friendly vibe. Guests that are looking for a romantic dinner or families wanting a high-quality meal can both have their dining desired met in one location at Dorn’s. Another great thing about the restaurant is that is been family owned and operated since 1942, so guests are helping to support a local small business.

When it came to order, there were so many choices for the children. From Fish n’ Chips to Pasta, there is something to satisfy every kid’s palate at Dorn’s. Not only did they have a lot of choices on the kids menu, but the portion sizes were large enough to satisfy the appetites of my growing children.

There were so many wonderful choices on the menu making it hard for me to decide what to order, but I finally make my decision to order the surf and turf. The meal came with a large steak paired with shrimp in a warm garlic butter sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection and practically melted in my mouth with every bite. It was an unforgettable meal that I’ll always think about when reminiscing about our time in Morro Bay.

Whether visiting Morro Bay as a couple or a family, Dorn’s is the perfect place for every type of traveler to enjoy. There is something for everyone and is guaranteed to take your family on an epicurean adventure.
