Dining Guide for Families in Orange County

Tidal at Paradise Point Resort

We dined as a guest of Tidal

While on our summer staycation in paradise at the Paradise Point Resort, we dined at the new popular San Diego restaurant, Tidal. After a full day of fun in the sun, we could not wait to unwind over a delicious meal at the chef-driven restaurant.

From the outside, the restaurant looks very plain and simple, but once we stepped inside, we were overwhelmed by the beauty. The restaurant has a chic Cape Cod decor with panoramic water views. There was a large outdoor patio with shade and heaters. Inside there was a lounge, bar and intimate dining room.

We started our dinner with the bay scallop and shrimp cocktail. The fish was fresh, flavorful and paired nicely with passion fruit, jicama, cucumber, thai basil, mint and taro. The appetizer was large enough to be a meal in itself.

While my husband and I were savoring the flavors of the fish, our children were served their own personal appetizer of cheese and crackers. While keeping with the nautical theme, the cheese was cut into fun fish shapes.

For the main course, my husband and I were both in the mood for steak. My husband ordered the 10oz. Certified top sirloin. The spectacular tender steak came topped with roasted mushrooms and melting blue cheese. It was paired with a small side salad and creamy mashed potatoes.

The 16oz. Certified rib-eye was the highlight dish of the evening. It came topped with charred leek, salsa verde and a side of mashed potatoes. This flavorful steak was one of the best steaks that I have ever had, and I know that I’ll find myself driving back down to San Diego on a regular basis for more.

The kids meals. I have never seen a $19 kids meal before, but I loved the fact that there were no unhealthy options. The kid’s meals come with an appetizer, main dish, dessert and drink. My two boys ordered the spaghetti while my daughter ordered the petite steak. After a fun day playing in the sun, the kids ate every bite of their meals, not leaving a single crumb behind.

We ended our meal with the baked butterscotch pudding and whoopie pie. The desserts came presented beautifully, and it was the perfect ending to our epicurean experience at Tidal.

After our lovely evening dining with the beautiful sunset views, our family retreated to the pool for a “dive-in” movie. The kids splashed in the water with their favorite Disney movie on the big screen while my husband and I cuddled together on a pool chair.

Whether your family is planning a staycation to the Paradise Point Resort or just in the San Diego area, Tidal is the perfect dining destination to have an unforgettable dinner. Tidal is located at 1404 Vacation Road in San Diego.
